Miracle Masks

Can I just start by saying how much I love facemasks, they remind me of girly sleepovers talking about rubbish, eating pizza and painting each others nails in crazy colours… and dots 😉

So in order to put out a massive hint to my best friend that we need to do this again, and to show my love for some of the face masks out there I’ve decided to dedicate my instagram posts and my blog this week to trying them out. #facemaskweek

First up is a mask that I’ve been wanting to try for ages! I love the idea of a sheet mask with the hope of it being less messy but still with great results. After following the Garnier UK instagram account after posting about the Micellar Water, I noticed them posting a lot about this tissue mask with everyone commenting it had left them with great results.

I applied the mask after cleansing my face from makeup first and whilst relaxing in the bath to try and get the full benefits of a chilled face mask application. With this mask you simply unfold it and lay over your face, I’d recommend a mirror handy to make sure you get the eye holes in the right place. You then peel off the protective blue layer and smooth out the edges to the curves of your face. The tissue mask is covered in a serum with Chamomile extract and hyaluronic acid that intensely hydrates and comforts your skin while you relax.

I loved the texture of this mask, it really felt as though it was ‘doing something’ and made me sit still which was an added bonus. If you do use it while in the bath as I did just be careful not to get too hot as I found having something covering my face and in a hot bath started to overheat a bit and I think I cut the 15 minute time a bit short.

Overall though I loved this sheet mask and will hopefully try some of the others out after payday 😉

Next I decided to try the clayMask® from Medik8®, this mask has a thick almost clay like consistency which I’m guessing is where its name comes from. I wanted to give this mask a try as it will hopefully help absorb excess oil on my skin and prevent my pores from clogging.

This mask did leave my skin feeling really clean and fresh afterwards, however it was difficult and messy to apply, but that’s half the fun of a facemask right! I also liked the sound of this mask as it’s ingredients include plant extracts like Passionflower and Willow Bark together with Cranberry Fruit, which to me sounds like would be a good cocktail too!

The 7th Heaven masks are the masks of teenage sleepovers all over the UK I can imagine, I know they were a firm favourite of mine, and still are to be honest! I decided to go back to them and try some new ones as well as one of my favourites, the Passion Peel off. I love these masks as not only are they all peel off ones which are so satisfying to peel off once they’ve dried, It’s like that feeling when you used to peel dried glue off your fingers!

I’ve not had a chance to try these all out yet but the one I’m most looking forward to testing out is the Black Seaweed Peel Off, I’ve always been a lover of seaweed as a skincare ingredient mainly due to it reminding me of being by the sea, which always calms me but I know it’s also good for oily prone skin, having used the Body Shop seaweed range previously.

The Passion Peel Off is one of my favourites though, partly due to its fruity smell of Pineapple and Papaya as well as how soft and refreshed it leaves your skin. Once applied you’ll look a bit red and very shiny, but once its all dried up and you peel away the pale pink mask along with all your dead skin cells, you’re left with a completely refreshed complexion, don’t forget to moisturise on top though as this one can dry your skin out a little.

After the success with the Garnier tissue mask I decided to have a little delve into a few more sheet mask’s, having finally scouted out the Soap & Glory sheet masks in boots, (Found them in the third boots I tried!) I decided to try out the Pore-Refining Mask and the Radiance-Boosting Mask. Firstly can I just say how much I love their packaging, I’m not usually a fan of ‘gimic’ packaging or a lot going on design wise, but somehow Soap & Glory manage to make theirs look great I almost don’t want to use them to ruin it!

Again I haven’t had a chance to try these ones out yet, but planning on a little pamper this weekend so keep an eye on my instagram story to find out how I get on!

My Hero

It takes a lot to get me to buy something more than once, as 9 times out of 10 I’ve bought something new to try, I’m such a sucker for new product marketing! Probably because I work in marketing myself but yeah…

I was trying to remember the first time I tried the Garnier Micellar cleansing water and I honestly can’t remember! It was probably when it launched a few years ago and I was tempted by the marketing. Today it’s something I cannot live without, It’s my one hero product I cannot be without. End of.

Gone are the days putting up with trying different makeup wipes trying to find ones that didn’t sting my eyes when I took my makeup off, with no luck might I add, so if anyone can recommend any would greatly appreciate! Micellar cleansing has had a big boom in the beauty industry recently and seems to be the go to for cleansing, I’m not surprised how well its doing, every brand I know is bringing out a Micellar water, Clarins, Sanctuary, Nivea, ESPA and ELIMIS.

Garnier have also started expanding their Micellar range including Cleansing water for different skin types including oily & combination, sensitive, dry & sensitive and blemish prone, this way you can cleanse your skin without the worry of damaging your skin at all. Personally I’m not keen on the idea of having an oil in a cleanser, I mean I get the idea of get norishing oils into your skin to hydrate it, but if you’ve got an oily skin like me it’s like my worst nightmare! My skin makes enough oil of its own without me adding more.

I have however tried the Skin Active Micellar Water for blemish prone skin, though I found this actually really dried out my skin which is hard to do trust me!  I also found it actually gave my skin more redness and it didn’t smell great either to be honest.

Ever since then I’ve not swayed from the sensitive skin cleansing water, It’s so gentle on my skin but does the job perfectly, without having to hardly rub my eyes at all, which is great for my sensitiveness. I’m quite regimented in how I use the water now too,  4 large cotton pads (like the ones featured in my pictures), add a few squirts of the water to the pads, then squish them all together to absorb the water (I use quite a lot which I probably shouldn’t but yeah, have I told you I love it!), I then use one pad for each eye using both sides to make sure I get the tough bits of mascara on my lash lines, then the last two one in each hand and sweeping across the rest of my face, I then splat the together dirty sides together and use the clean (ish) sides to sweep the cleansing water down my neck and under my ears where I usually contour with bronzer. The Cleansing Water works by containing micelles that act like ‘dirt magnets’, lifting away make-up and impurities making makeup removal pain free and easy. Even if your not removing makeup it cleanses all the everyday dirt build up leaving you all cleansed and clean.

The Garnier Micellar Water is also available in three handy sizes, the normal 400ml for everyday use, a larger 700ml for the lovers like me and a tiny 125ml travel size. Though a small bone to pick, why make the travel size 25ml too big for plane travel? Seems a bit odd to me and my mum (who is very frustrated by this). So if you have any idea why they decided to do this please let me know!?

Anyway, the Micellar family also still growing with the new Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash and most recently the Micellar Cleansing Wipes, both of which I’m quite anxious to try and see if they irritate my eyes at all, especially the wipes as I’ve had so much trouble with cleansing wipes before.

For now though I’m sticking with my beauty hero, would love to hear your beauty hero’s, the one product you can’t be without.
